I had an interesting discussion with a parent about her little “picky eater”. I asked if she thought her child was the one in control when it came to what they would eat. It took a minute for her to answer but eventually she said, “I’d like to say no, but to be honest with you and myself the answer is YES!”
She went on to talk about how it has come to this. Because she is so concerned about how little her child eats he basically gets what he wants and when he wants it. “He’s hungry and I need to get as much nutrition into him as I can.” she said.
I GET THIS and I say, “So why don’t you give this control to your child and don’t fight the battle with him or yourself for doing it! BUT control the choices so they are healthy ones.”
My new friend laughed and said, “RIGHT and how do I do that?”
Of course I have the ready made solution that will end the battles and where everyone wins everyday ~ The Eating Game. I remind her that she is the one buying the food and presenting what she has purchased as the choices. She will still buy the foods he likes but they will be choices only once a day.
I will ask you the same question………………..
