What Is The Eating Game?
The Eating Game, a visual meal planner, called a “game“ because children say it’s fun, will easily become an independent daily routine. It really is a simple solution to an often complex problem faced by many families.
Very simply The Eating Game can be used by all ages and abilities. It requires 2 skills: 1) being able to make a choice 2) matching the colors on the food pictures with the chart colors.
Your Eating Game has meal planning charts for ages from 2 to 18. An adult version gives ages 19 to 51+.
The charts & pictures are color coded with Velcro buttons.
There are bags of food pictures in 4 colors – green for fruits & veggies, yellow for grain products, blue for milk & alternatives and red for meat and alternatives.
There are also 2 storage pages for the food pictures.
Parents need to first read through the text pages.
Next go through each bag of food pictures picking out ones you generally eat as a family, placing them on your storage page that can be changed at any time.
Each day you will choose foods from those you have on hand, from your storage page to place on the page you will give to your child for their choices.
Your child only needs their chart and food choices you set out. They will make their choice and place the pictures on the chart matching colors.
Each day at the same time to promote consistency and routine your child will plan their meals and snacks. A great time is when having a bedtime snack, planning for the next day.
Your child may want to make changes- always remember to let them be in control of the choices. Your job as parent is to be consistent and persistent with this daily routine and you will see positive results!
